A small pagoda, perched precariously on top of an enormous boulder, unsteadily hanging off a cliff edge is truly a sight to behold.
As well as being a spectacular sight, the Golden Rock is also of important religious and historical significance. Legend has it that the boulder balances on a strand of the Buddha’s hair and that it was its male devotees who laced the whole rock in glimmering golden leaf. Today it is one of Myanmar’s most sacred sights and pilgrims come from all over the world to worship here.
Be sure to take the trip to the summit area to experience the breath-taking panoramic views that extend across the impressive Mon State mountains. This trip can be taken by foot or by car, or indeed you may want to experience Myanmar’s first ever cable car.
Whichever route you take to the Golden Rock, this magical site oozes peace and tranquillity and is sure to create memories you will never forget.
